Hello, born broken. Not in a wheel chair yet, but I am close to 30 and can't work a regular 9 to 5 job anymore. I currently live in Sacramento, C.A. and it is impossible to live here while on social security disability, even with 2 room mates. As much as I want to re-join the work force, its not possible and I would like to live worry free for the remaining years of my life, in peace. Where is the best place to live when someone only gets $800? If I have to leave California, what state would be best to move too? And why.

I would say probably states like Ohio or Indiana. Two cities that come to mind are Toledo OH and FT Wayne IN where desirable one bedroom apartments rent for $400-$450 a month. Factoring in both SNAP (food stamp benefits) along with federally subsidized utility payments you could live quite comfortably.

I also recall Tucson AZ as being very affordable as well with one bedrooms under $500 per month if warmer weather sounds more appealing.

I live in the Charlotte area and have been disabled since 1995. If you are wise with your money, you could get by here. Ohio/Indiana region is good too. Good luck!

Toledo has the University of Toledo Medical Center which is a teaching hospital for the UT School of Medicine and always a perk in my opinion versus a traditional hospital with more aggressive/intuitive care generally speaking. Most if not all states (including Ohio) participate in the federal subsidy program. https://www.benefits.gov/benefits/benefit-details/1563

el paso texas. You can get an apartment for under 500 bucks a month and you are just a walking bridge away from Mexico where you will be able to buy anything you need at a fraction of the cost of the same thing in the states.
