Good grief!

Midwest....the real America of small towns, grain silos, country roads, small town diners, town squares with churches and courthouses, down to Earth, hardworking ordinary folks.
That is exactly the stereotype I spoke of a little earlier. You'd think none of these towns would need a police force, the people are so wholesome! Most of the people in the midwest live in cities. In Illinois, about 3/4 of the people live in the Chicago area, and a lot live in other cities such as Rockford, Peoria and Champaign. Some live in the Illinois suburbs of St. Louis. In Nebraska, the majority of people live in Lincoln and Omaha. In Minnesota, most people live in the Minneapolis area (~60%). Ohio? Cleveland, Cincinnatti, and Columbus. Indiana? Indianapolis and NW Indiana, which is really suburban Chicago. Wisconsin? Milwaukee. Missouri? St. Louis and Kansas City. Iowa? Des Moines and many smaller cities. Kansas? Well, maybe. Most people in the Dakotas live in the cities there. All of these cities have Starbcks; most have Thai, Kenyan and other ethnic restaurants. All have crime. Most have factories. I once read that the state with the largest % rural pop. is Vermont.

I think Buffalo should have more votes than it does. I realize that it's close to Canada and may have some traits and all but it's still in New York and part of the NEast.

I think everything from Boston through Buffalo should have more votes...I mean seriously, Philadelphia doesn't even have 77% of the vote! What is philly if not part of the Northeast? Even if you say Mid-Atlantic, that is still Northeast. DC and Baltimore are below 50% and DC is not even 40% higher than Cleveland.

Interestingly, both actors I know of from Minneapolis vote Republican: Vince Vaughn and Kevin Sorbo.

Ben. The Kansas City government and county are bankrupting the city and county with all their spending. The Power and Light District, Sprint Center arena, upgrades to the Royals and Chiefs stadiums, etc. Right now they have a several million dollar deficit that is leading to something like 200 layoffs just at City Hall. And now there is talk about spending over a BILLION bucks to build a light rail system. They can't even get enough people to ride the bus and instead of trying to upgrade that they want to waste a ton of money on a new toy. Ugh...

Why not Ohio??? What constitutes heartland???? Ohio is shaped like a heart!! haha!

From Photobucket...........

Of course not all of Ohio looks like this, but a lot of it does...........

Tom Lennox 70. Kansas City is dramatically different than New England and even New York or PA.

A guy I work with from Syracuse has been out here for over 20 years and he said this place is the exact opposite of the Northeast. My experiences here bear this out.

The pace of life is dramatically slower. The work ethic and even the values in the work place are far different. I've encountered more lying, thieving backstabbing people in the workplace here than in ANY of the other ten states where I've lived and worked. These people seem to automatically think the worst of someone until they get to know them. In New England and NY people are more inclined to give someone the benefit of the doubt at the start.

If you say anything more than "hello" to a woman in this part of the country she thinks you are hitting on her and want to go out with her. This fact was confirmed by a woman co worker during a discussion about the sexes here. The women seem to have more testosterone than the men. In New England, most guys and gals try to find a suitable mate by searching for someone that has similar interests and hobbies. Out here they solely use their hormones to find a suitable mate. In New England you have just a handful of good friends and then some acquaintances. Out here that might be considered a snobby attitude because they mostly develop more superficial relationships with numerous people vs. simply having a small clique to hang with.

Those are beautiful. The second one reminds me of The Shire in Lord of the Rings. I always welcome pics on my thread. Thanks.
