I am just curious about which states have the most and can appeal to everyone, I have a few categories that I would like them to mostly meet:

Decent amount of roads
At least one major city
Mountains/valleys or large hilly regions
Coastline and beaches
diverse flora/fauna and geography
Lakes and rivers
Mild climate
Some sort of historical significance

North Carolina seems to fit that description nicely.

Road infrastructure: improving
Major city: Charlotte
Mountains/Valleys: Western NC/Asheville
Coastal: Outer Banks
Geography/Flora: Check
Lakes & Rivers: Lake Norman/French Broad River
Mild Climate: Check
History: Tons!

California, except it's hell'a expensive if you want to live along the coast where most of the well paying jobs are located, plus it has one of the highest state income taxes in the US.

I guess you can add Oregon and Washington as well.

Where do you live now?

I would have to say North Carolina, California, or the PacNW.

If I were to pick one place of the three, I would choose NC just because the affordability is much better, and the beaches are more enjoyable if you actually want to get in the water

Based on the criteria, Washington State beyond a doubt. You can check all the boxes here, but historical significance is a sliding curve based on the age of the State, as WA is one of the youngest.

Not really a "mild" climate. It checks all the other boxes. I also think the best is Washington but North Carolina is a decent choice as well.

North Carolina and Georgia- although depending on which part, they can get very hot and humid in Summer.

Oregon would probably fit the bill as well - in addition to California and Washington.

Virginia could be thrown into the mix also.

Could be New Jersey.

Decent amount of roads - New Jersey has tons of them
At least one major city - It has two, NYC and Philly
Mountains/valleys or large hilly regions - Northwest Jersey
Coastline and beaches - Jersey Shore, which is huge and gorgeous
diverse flora/fauna and geography - Mountains/Beaches/Light Hills/Flat Areas/Pine Barrens/Oak forests/More Evergreens in areas
Lakes and rivers - Passaic/Delaware/Hudson/Lake Hopatcong and many other smaller ones
Mild climate - eh....not really but it's not too bad
Some sort of historical significance - tons of history/great architecture
