If you were to rank the states based on which one has the best two public universities (by whatever measure you choose), obviously California wins by miles with Cal and UCLA. There isn't even a hint of competition.

So why would you choose the state you did as second place? feel free, of course, to make a ranking list.

The poll is designed to try (I don't know if I succeeded) in including the likely contenders although I certainly could have left some off the list.

I like the poll choices and came up with a similar list in my head. It's really hard to choose, because so many of those schools have some amazing strengths/majors and, in my head, that's all I can think of instead of looking at the school overall as a whole.

I don't know much about W and M. I'm inclined to vote for Texas.

Is it obvious that Cal and UCLA are that far ahead of other 1-2 punches? I ask because some of this depends on the publication one uses. For instance: https://www.timeshighereducation.com...#survey-answer

It also depends on what's a better 1 - 2 punch for example is UVA and W&M a better one 2 punch than UM and MSU or UNC and NC St.? While I'll consider UVA, UM and UNC about the same on one hand. On the other hand W&M is ranked higher in most rankings, but is a much smaller school than MSU or NC St.

1. Virginia or Georgia.
3. North Carolina.

And Georgia's 1-2 punch should be written GT, UGA. Get it right, y'all.

Wins by miles...not really. UCLA & UC-Berkeley are ranked at #21 while the U Of Virginia is at #25 and William & Mary is at #32.
