for some reason i'm having trouble getting this list for most cities. i am looking for this info for these places:
n.y.c.
l.a.
chicago
houston
washington, d.c.
dallas
san francisco
philadelphia
boston
atlanta
but it seems like only boston publishes this info:
Quote:
Boston is surrounded by the "Greater Boston" region and is contiguously bordered by the cities and towns of Winthrop, Revere, Chelsea, Everett, Somerville, Cambridge, Watertown, Newton, Brookline, Needham, Dedham, Canton, Milton, and Quincy.
If you Wikipedia each city go to the bottom of the page and you'll see information for surrounding cities/counties usually. I do see where DC does not and if not mistaken Wikipedia is user utilized in terms of references. Folks are perhaps typically too busy in those cities..???
i was gonna' come up with a poll for everyones favorited bordering cities but that list seems impossible to consolidate. why dont everyone just provide me a list of cities to include.
Wikipedia has individual articles on nearly every community in the world.
I wrote some of them myself, mostly for Maryland communities
Just what kind of information are you looking for? Demographics? Resources and amenities in each community? Economic and job base? School systems? Historical background?
Communities that appeal to young single people? Or to families?

hi, would you be able to provide a list of all the municipalities that share a land or water border with washington, d.c. sorted by population descending.
Counties that immediately touch the city of Washington, in descending order of population
Fairfax County, VA - population over 1 million (technically I suppose it barely touches the corner of Washington at McLean near Chain Bridge)
Montgomery County, MD - population over 1 million
Prince Georges County, MD - population almost 1 million
Arlington County, VA - population almost 200,000. It's very urban, but technically a County and not a City.
Alexandria City, VA - population roughly 150,000
The lower part of Montgomery County, and much of Prince Georges County, are un-incorporated.
The only legally incorporated towns in Maryland that actually touch on the City limits of Washington, are Takoma Park, Mount Rainier, Seat Pleasant, Capital Heights, Fairmount Heights.... Takoma Park is the most interesting of all this group, while the others are small and non-descript.
Within a couple of miles outside the City limits of Washington, are Forest Heights, District Heights, Brentwood, North Brentwood, Hyattsville, College Park, University Park, Cheverly, Bladensburg, Landover Hills, Morningside, Riverdale. These are all very small, rather non-descript and very ordinary, lower-middle class.... Hyattsville and College Park are the 2 most prominent and interesting of these.
Falls Church, VA. is another incorporated city, a few miles further out of Washington; it doesn't actually border on Washington though.
Also, keep in mind, many thousands of people have Alexandria, Hyattsville, and Falls Church mailing addresses, but actually live outside the limits of those respective cities, and instead in neighboring Counties.
If you're going by just postal named communities, regardless of them being un-incorporated, then the most prominent places just outside the Washington city limits would be Chevy Chase, Bethesda, and Silver Spring (all within Montgomery County Maryland).........and Arlington and Alexandria in Virginia.
