I live in Louisiana, where really great drag isn't easy to find (we do have New Orleans, but still). Eventually, I'll be moving elsewhere, and aside from the immediate issues like finding work, affordable housing, and a decent climate, I often wonder what the drag scene is like elsewhere. I've attended only one drag show outside of the state in my life, and it was in Indianapolis. Overall, I thought it was much more professional and elaborate than what I've seen down here and enjoyed it quite a bit.

So are there standout places to live in the U.S. in terms of being able to see a great drag show on the weekends? Where drag queens and kings are part of the local culture, even?

Atlanta.

As RuPaul once said to an exiting contestant on Drag Race:

"You are a fabulous Atlanta Queen from a long line of fabulous Atlanta Queens..."

Big cities, I'd think. I actually saw a great show for my bachelorette party in Nashville in the late 1980's.

As a member of the LGBT community I would have to say that South Florida (Miami-Ft Lauderdale) is probably the best. Wilton Manors in particular is worthy of checking out. Thirteen ways to have a fabulous summer: A guide to drag shows - southflorida.com

NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta (like a poster mentioned above, RuPaul mentioned) come to mind first and foremost.

NYC, SF and Atlanta has very little in the way of drag performers/venues. Atlanta has like 3 bars with shows, NYC might have two or three and SF one might think would have umpteen but has around 6. The Fort Lauderdale area has THIRTEEN.

NYC has way more than 3.
