The wild American night dressed in neon lights. The classic American city landscape that we European travelers all expect (thanks to the movies from our childhood) when we visit your country.

I was in San Francisco in 2012 and Market st. definitely did not have this colorful, exciting, movie-esque look anymore.

You expect a place to look the same in 2012 as it did in 1960?.... sigh, you must be old.

Even Times Square lacks the classic look of its past, with giant SUHDTV screens instead of neon (although there's still some present), but I guess you could say "There's always Vegas" in the same manner. It's much more cost-effective to have vinyl signage instead of neon, and even if you have lights, LED is more environmentally friendly.

A "classic American night" could mean thousands of different things among people.

I initially thought this was going to be a thread about overweight Americans watching t.v. and eating fast food or some other processed dinner on any "classic American night".
