( and I don't say that just cause I live in New York, I actually HATE living here, and we can't wait for FIL and father to pass so we are permanently out of here).

The thread topic says most proud of their name, not state (though there is obviously a lot of overlap).

I would say New York is definitely a contender. New York Yankee caps are as much a proclamation of the state by its name as anything else.
