2. Hawaii 312K
3. Washington 68K
4. New York 52K
5. Texas 38K

Focusing on Sacramento vs. Portland:

Sacramento (2010) Asian 18.3%
Portland (2010) Asian 7.1%

Of course, Asian is not the same as Japanese in statistical samples

Asians in Portland also include a lot of Indians I think.

There is an Uwajimaya Market in Beaverton. Sacramento has Oto’s Market which looks like a single local business, but very highly rated.

The fact that there is an Uwajimaya in Beaverton makes me think that there is some semblance of a Japanese community there. It’s a chain Japanese grocery store with several locations in the Seattle area, though it’s somewhat watered down in terms of being a true Japanese grocery store.

I personally prefer Mitsuwa Marketplace to Uwajimaya but unfortunately they don’t exist outside of SoCal, Chicago, Dallas and New Jersey.

Of the two (Sacramento and Portland) only Sacramento shows up on the list with highest number and highest percentages with close to 7K Japanese residents and/or 1.6% of population.
