If you’re young and single, my answer to where’s the best place to live on 30-40k is the most vibrant, thriving city where it’s socially acceptable to have a roommate. I would opt for career prospects and social life over the ability to rent an apartment without a roommate. No one looks back and says “I’m glad I lived alone at 24”. I’d probably go with Austin or Dallas.
