Well, the NC fad is taking place in inland metros, not in coastal NC, which is still very very rural. Of coastal metros in the Southeast, Virginia Beach is an option (although wages are low and housing costs are high relative to other southern markets), or maybe Jacksonville?

Another trendy place closer to the coast would be in the Myrtle Beach area, though I'm not sure about the jobs there either.

Have you tried further north into central or downeast Maine? Law enforcement jobs are almost always available no matter where you decide on. I didn't mention southern Maine only because it's pretty much "north Boston" and the prices reflect that.

Is it because it's near Boston or because of the politicians/other rich who live there?
I'm surprised to hear law enforcement jobs area always available there, one would think there isn't much crime in Maine.

Please please don't move to the south! I'm sorry but too many people from the north have already come down to these parts. North Carolina has already been ruined by people from the north with higher home prices and higher crime.
Nevermind for some reason people from the north come to the south but then expect that southerners will adjust to their attitude and pace. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of coming to the south? Yet I see it on a regular basis.
In all seriousness, I want you to consider this. If you plan on coming to the south to truly enjoy what the south has to offer, live a slower lifestyle, learn about our way of life, and not constantly annoy us with "well up north we do this, it's so much better up north" then feel free to come down. But if you are constantly going to annoy us with how much better things are up north and how you think we talk weird, please stay up north. Both sides would be happier.

My advice would be for you to stay where you are, which is northern nj.
The southeast has a lower cost of living, but your salary will reflect that lower cost of living

Florida would fit what you are looking for. Keep in mind though that FL has the second highest qualifications to become a Law Enforcment Officer behind CA.

Forget about Florida, the job market there is terrible. If you want the south then Houston would be a good choice. However I would suggest staying in New Jersey, South Jersey would offer everything you are looking for (Checkout areas in Burlington County).
