Plattsburgh NY is a place that comes to mind.

Is the Plattsburgh area the best kept secret in NY State?

If you donít mind me asking, but where NY? Iím only asking because the state varies greatly in terms of cost of living, environment, etc; depending on the location.

With that said, what kind of places did you have in mind? What else are you looking for in a community?

I'd recommend Greenville SC. You should find some good job opportunity in the area, it's fairly safe, you'll find salaries in the $12 an hour range within your fields of work where BMW and Michelin among other have plants, is a fairly friendly area and close to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Actually the South has less poverty/more job growth than the Midwest or places out West beyond cities like Seattle and Portland. While I'm sure you experienced what you did in Georgia it certainly doesn't speak for the whole region. I would recommend some homework before making such a broad dismissal of one whole section of the country...

If you would settle for pretty big-hill country over proper mountains, definitely look into the "driftless" region of Wisconsin. You may find what you're looking for all around over there.
