Houston tops most of those cities you listed. Without a doubt.

I've talked literally hundreds of gay guys in the past 8 years, and without a DOUBT, Dallas and Austin are always mentioned as the gay centeres of Texas. I'm sure there's a gay population in Houston, but I've never once heard it mentioned in a casual conversation. They should advertise more!

I'm sorry to ask this, but how can one be "gay"? it blows my mind...and I'm not religious...
another thing I don't understand is that ghetto mentality...for me it's the contrary of freedom...
(nothing against them, just asking candidly)

The same way that you can be straight. You didn't choose to like girls, or you don't make a conscious decision about what types of girls you like. It just is what it is...
As far as that "ghetto" mentality, I would bet you that if you were in their situation...and most (if not almost all) of your dating options were located in specific areas, you would want to be near those areas too.
Would you want to be surrounded by all guys (as a straight guy)??

I am married and hetro. My thoughts are who cares, it is not my business. If someone is respectful to me then I return it, no matter what or who you may be.
You may be suprised, but Alabama is really not as bad as a lot of people think. Mobile and the Gulf Coast region for that are fairly open minded. Mobile has A LOT of gay couples and singles.

As many have noted, San Francisco is undoubtedly the GAY city in the US, however there are several other cities with significantly large gay populations. In terms of legal rights more states in the Northeast and along the West Coast are providing support for gay marriage [the California supreme court is expected to rule in favor of all marriage rights for gays sometime this year.

What, are you kidding? Atlanta is as gay as a pink hairnet!
Check the stats on where gays are living on City-Data; you'll be surprised.

i lived in NYC for over 20 years, NY is a big city, although I'm a good looking guy I never really could find any cohesive gay group. In truth I never made any real friends. I live in Portland now. I know about 500 people by name- and could have a blast of a party. It's hard to say if their is a gay culture exactly. It is EXTREMELY hard to tell who is gay. I've hung out with guys I just assumed were gay only to later meet their girlfriends. Portland is really progressive and has great zoning. People are great drivers, but jobs are hard - I make 1/4th of what I made in NYC 6 years ago. I've actually thought of moving because of money issues.
