Someone on CNN International was saying that this guy (John Defterios) has a mostly ''General American'' accent however he has a twang that sounds like somewhere from Southern Europe (He has Greek ancestry but was born in Los Angeles). What do you think?

He does sound different. I would have guessed that he spent part of his younger years in a foreign country.

Listened twice and only heard 3 words that drew my attention: Night = noit; China = Choyna; engine = injin. First two words may be Australian pronunciation, engine sounded like a Southerner's or Midwesterner's or an AA's pronunciation. But all 3 were very slight, not pronounced at all. Otherwise, standard American English. Didn't pick up on any "twang".
