Isn't this what many people say they want? They are always complaining that minority groups don't think or act like the majority. That languages other than "American" need to be banished. That people need to fall in line and be assimilated as soon as they step off the boat.
Sounds like a homogeneous culture is just what many here want.
Personally, I still think the south IS different from the north, not as much as it used to be and probably much more than it will be in the future. But I prefer that the US actually be a patchwork. I like being able to go to different parts of the country to hear other languages and other accents and experience other sub-cultures.
No more than the rest of the regions. Actually probably a good deal less. It is changing, but then culture doesn’t usually stay stagnant in the way some people see it.
A lot of places are losing their identities due to transplants.
I'm hoping cultures will blend as transplants move to new places.. I don't really like the idea of a place losing it cultural identity nor do I like it if transplants are forced to assimilate either.
Problem is they "ain't" steppin' off a BOAT in order to BECOME AMERICANS. Many of these people"ain't" "tryin' too hard to BECOME AMERICAN, most are only interested in "transferring" their cultures FIRST, not putting AMERICA FIRST (have you seen these bozos waving their own nation's FLAGS??? and not the AMerican FLAG?? if you haven't then you're blind or in denial).
Common language is an important component of ANY nation's IDENTITY..whether in Germany, France, Norway, Russia, or MEXICO. The United States of America should be no different. You wouldn't MOVE to Germany and superimpose or overlay English on native Germans would you? of course not...how about moving to Saudi? Better yet, how about your moving to CHINA? (pretty damn "homogeneous" eh?) If a nation loses its language and customs, it LOSES its identity as a sovereign nation sooner or later, pal.
The bigger threat to the South is people moving from in from other parts of the country who complain that things aren't done there like they are "back home" and so on and so forth. As far as Spanish-speaking immigrants go, the second generation is largely "Americanized" so that's not a huge issue for interior Southern states anyway.
The point is that it's not something "evil" for residents to "become AMERICANIZED" ! that's the whole point ! people SHOULD share our foundational values and culture, not "hold on" from whence they came. Most Americans don't want their communities to smack of "foreign values" and "foreign customs" (some of which violate OUR Constitution in the first place...such as denying women's rights, or forbidding child marriage, drug use/trafficking, educational denial, religious persecution, etc).
Look, when we start printing signage and traffic instructions in SPANISH, we have lost our true identity. When you turn on your TV, and 25% of the programming on American cable outlets is in SPANISH, you have LOST your identity.
Specifically and as an example, there is a HUGE influx of PUERTO RICANS (about 250,000) who have moved to Orlando FLORIDA (a southern state), in the last year. Many don't speak a bit of English, even as so-called US citizens (according to the present law). You don't think this invasion from Puerto Rico to Florida will not change the identity of ORLANDO ????????? if you don't, you're nutty LOL Heretofore, there were only a few Puerto Ricans living in and around Orlando - now there are hundreds of thousands!

I'm sure it doesn't seem this way to you, but you're coming off very racist. Calling Puerto Ricans "so-called US citizens" and people of middle eastern descent "Arabs" makes it clear what you think of people of color.

Does this apply to Italians too? I love that there are still racists here. IF you don't like the Spanish channel, I got an idea for you, change it. Our diversity is our strength.

Yet nobody makes a big deal about signage and traffic signs in French up in New England and upstate New York.
Furthermore, the first wave of immigrants from Europe to the U.S. were essentially the same as the first generation of migrants from Latin America.

Give me a break. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory; they aren't foreigners and it's not an "invasion" when they migrate to the mainland.
Give the xenophobia a rest for a minute. It sounds taxing.
The south is too strong and rooted in its identity to change. If you're from the south, you understand, and appreciate that.
After living in a non-southern region that's void of identity, and volatile to the winds of change, I'm ready to head back to where consistency can be counted on.
