Does your region have a distinct sense of humor? What is it? Types of humor are, for example: raunchy, sarcastic, subtle, coarse/dirty, polite, dry, witty, slapstick. What types of humor are considered funny in your region, and what would be considered inappropriate or unfunny?

In Pittsburgh it's very sarcastic, sometimes dry, and often self-deprecating.

I'd say sarcasm (and being a smartass) is the biggest one for people in New England, something outsiders generally don't seem to care for lol.

I don't think there is one overriding style. It really depends on the company you are with.

Interesting thread. By your name I can tell your a fellow Buckeye, in my region (southern Ohio) it seems to be mostly split between blue color fart jokes and sarcasm. This is a gerneralization but humor varies from person to person.

I would say Philadelphia's sense of humor is dark/self deprecating and VERY sarcastic.

I'd call New York's Humor intellectual/ethnic.

Take a look at big time NYC comedians like George Carlin, Chris Rock, John Leguizamo, Lenny Bruce, or Sen. Al Franken.

We're the nation's intellectual center and historically its immigration center. So it figures, doesn't it?

sarcasm in slight doses. A person who is sarcastic all the time will be seen as annoying. Older people hardly even use sarcasm it seems.

A lot of humor is racial or sacrilegious (mostly making fun of evangelicals). And it's accepted.
