That doesn't make sense though, as it all originated in Santa Clara county. SF was always the financial center of the West Coast, and the dot-com/tech in general thing only extended to SF later due to it being a more desirable place to live for young people.

Who cares where the county line is? Is still the San Francisco area, especially from the world's perspective.

Haven't you watched BBC and CNN? It's all SJ or P.A for Silicon Valley credit. It even takes credit for Seattle's activity: Microsoft and Amazon are often tied in with SJ.

My San Jose based in-laws certainly didn't think so. Neither does my San Jose based daughter.
