I need a change. For the sake of argument, take cost of living out of the picture.
What is the best city for people burnt on the LA area? Besides California...
Is it Austin, Dallas, South Florida, Raleigh-Durham, or somewhere else?
Has anybody tried somewhere new? What are popular relocation spots?
Looking more for quality of life rather than quality of opportunities. It doesn't have to be a booming city, but So Cal has good resources and warm weather, so those would be good to have.

Hard to say definitively but perhaps Tampa-St Petersburg -Clearwater if you're looking to slow down a little yet keep the warm weather and outdoor activities minus the wrought out congestion.

If you're looking for that beach life and have the financial resources to maintain close to the same cost as you have in Socal, then Miami is definitely the place. I can see St Pete being a decent alternative should COL be a little more of a concern.

If beach living isnt critical then there are tons of alternatives depending on what you seek, including all the ones you mentioned.

Ah ok. Well then pretty much anywhere that is cheaper and smaller right? That would be more laid back and easier.

Anyway popular destinations for folks from SoCal as I'm sure you already know, include Phoenix, Tucson, Vegas, Atlanta, all over TX and FL.

Based on your criteria (warm weather, but cheaper)...

Las Vegas
Phoenix
Tucson
Atlanta
Florida: Tampa Bay, Orlando, Jacksonville
Texas: Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin
Charleston, SC
Charlotte
Raleigh-Durham

Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Raleigh have CONSIDERABLY colder winters than southern California; the same along with ALL of the mentioned Florida cites have MUCH hotter and MUCH, MUCH more humid summers than ANYWHERE in California. Just some food for thought.
