I"ve never been to U.S. city that could compare to Montreal. That place is amazing.

Montreal feels so European to me. I think New Orleans is our most European City in a lot of respects.

I agree and would have mentioned it had the OP gone that direction, however only the descriptive of urban, culturally vibrant and affordable was used.

NOLA is urban and culturally vibrant no question. Affordable is subjective.

The only affordable European style City we have today is New Orleans , New York City and San Francisco definitely are not affordable American European style cities.
