Where in this country is marijuana not treated like a crime? I've heard of places that treat it as a traffic offense, so those areas may work. But please help!!!

First, nobody has ever claimed it heals... maybe there are 1 or two conditions it can improve, but for the most part it's used to alleviate symptoms. However, that can eventually assist with healing, like in the cases of AIDS & cancer. It's used to stimulate the appetite in these patients, therefore preventing "wasting" that can occur from malnutrition... my sister's friend has an inoperable brain tumor, and pot really helps him through the chemo (he's had 4 rounds now).

As for the proof, well as they say, "the proof's in the pudding". I personally know the benefits, as it helps with my pain more than any pills (which usually have side-effects)... and my friend mentioned above is living proof, which I've seen with my own eyes. No amount of scientific evidence really matters, since it helped him - and that's enough to convince me.

P.S. The marinol pills really don't do much... I've tried them, and they did no more than an advil or two. Plus I think it's a tough prescription to get these days, for some reason.

Marinol is not really good for pain relief what the experts seem to think it does is create a state of euphoria for the patient that allows them to possibly handle their pain better. For some it works well but others it has no effect and the experience is frightening to them. And it does stimulate the appetite for cancer patients that can do wonders. But as far as actual interaction with pain receptors it does very little.

Now they do make a few patches that can help with chronic pain, the strongest of which is the duragesic patch which contains the most powerful drug out there, fentanyl. The patch requires special handling and must never be handled by children or disposed of within their reach. There are also very powerful opiates in pill form.

As a nurse I will say it is a poor reflection on the doc that this man is living in pain. With so many options out there I find very few exceptions for them to allow a patient to walk around in pain on a daily basis. Some doctors just plain suck when it comes to managing pain appropriately! Or they do not take the time to listen or problem solve if the drug is giving the patient a side effect like nausea. Take it from an ortho nurse..I took care of kids who had their muscles cut and tendons rearranged, spine surgeries etc. and I never had a patient (took care of mostly children) whom I could not safely make comfortable.

Sometimes i feel people just want to use illegal drugs and will say anything to jusifty the use.If you do not like the pills use the pain patches.

My mom died of lung cancer. I got her some pot to see if it would help her keep food down. But it didn't help.

When I lived in the SF Bay area, I knew a bunch of people who were associated with the cannabis clubs out there. I knew a lot of people with genuine health problems who it helped. But, I also knew a lot of people who merely used it as a pretext to evade the law.

I think it ought to be legal, myself. But, if it's going to be illegal, there should be some way for them to get it without fear of arrest. And, without turning it into a joke, like it is out there.

"If you do not like the pills use the pain patches."

They're not equivalent, at all. As Winnie points out, fentanyl is one of the strongest narcotics known. It's also super addictive, prized by some junkies more than heroin.

It's decriminalized in the following states:

Maine, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Mississippi, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, California, and Alaska.

The states with the most lenient laws for simple personal use possession are California, Colorado, Ohio, Maine, and Alaska.

On the flip side some states with strictest marijuana laws are Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Vermont, and Washington.

You don't want to get caught on a fishing vessel with weed, in Alaska. Boat owner can get into big time trouble. More like a misdemeanor here, (on shore) as long as it's small quanities. I have a few friends that have cards. They seem to prefer the local grown rather than prescription issued. Alot of folks will grow up to 4 plants with no trouble. Any more than that and you can be raided and jailed. My area is pretty low key, but statewide they make some pretty spectacular busts. Big time grow rooms and such, with hundreds of plants. Sounds like some of you previous posters were smoking way to much!
The important thing is, don't be an idiot with the stuff. Keep it at home, don't give it to kids, don't be driving around on the stuff, and don't make it your life.
