I say move to California. I don't have a card, but you don't really need one. It seems like everyone and their dog smokes. For those that don't, they just "wink" and turn the other way, like my teachers.
I guess you can have a card, but it's more expensive (but higher quality). It's treated as a TRAFFIC TICKET if you get caught. It's a joke.
If you grow in your backyard and are not smoking in front of the police station blasting bob marley, nobody will care. Even the police stated that they are not trying to bust people "smoking a joint at the dinner table."
Northern California is even more lax. The Santa Cruz District Attorney was caught with an ounce.
California is great.

Marijuana Legalization why or why not
Hi people I am doing my junior paper on the legalization of Marijuana I live in Weed California and My aunt uses Medical Marijuana. Without it she would not be able to eat. I know the distribution of pot is a crime that can put you in jail 10 years to life. I believe it should be legalized but it is really hard to find information that isnt just propaganda if I could get some help thanks Tiff

I'm about as centrist as you can get on this issue; I don't believe that the rhetoric being cast about on either side of this debate is very credible. But I'll jump in anyway, perhaps with a different perspective.
Medical marijuana makes a nice story but it's not compelling to me. If marijuana were made legal then marijuana use would increase. This is bad. However, I do believe far fewer people would transition to hard core narcotics like crack, cocaine and heroin. This is good. Since many dealers who sell marijuana also distribute other more profitable drugs, adults would be going to a public "cafe" for their marijuana. No longer would they be continuously exposed to a dealers' crack or heroin sales pitch. Over time marijuana would be decreasingly associated with harder drugs, and increasingly associated with acceptable recreational drugs like caffeine and alcohol. I think that's ultimately where marijuana belongs.
I'm 34 and I no longer smoke marijuana. Like alcohol, consuming it stopped being fun for me and in my early twenties I quit. Now, the only vices I have are chocolate and caffeine However, when I was a teenager, I smoked alot of pot. I mean, ALOT. I may have singlehandedly increased Jamaica's annual per capita GDP by $5 - THATS how much I smoked Anyway, as a teen, when I or one of my friends visited a local dealer to buy some pot, there was often the sales pitch. "Wanna try some new stuff I have?" or "How about some heroin? I just scored some". I knew what the consequences were if I tried cocaine, or heroin, etc. I knew it was a form of slow acting suicide and it wasn't my cup of tea. So I said "No Thanks" every time I was pitched. But some kids I knew didn't say no thanks. They said, sure, why not. They opened Pandora's Box and could never close it again.
So, ultimately, No, I don't think legalizing marijuana is a good thing in and of itself due to its health effects. BUT, by legalizing it, the dealer is no longer the primary source and there are millions of teenagers out there who would be bumming joints off their older friends and siblings (much like they acquire alcohol today), and avoiding the dealers' temptation at such a young and impressionable age. This disruption in the "traditional" sales cycle would have a profound effect on hardcore drug addiction rates. That's why I think we should take a serious look at legalization.
