[quote=l1995;52549582]Here in New York, it seems like white people say "ant" and black people say "ahnt". I believe most nonwhites in general around here pronounce it the latter way.[/QUOTE
Its the same in the South.
From Minnesota, I say aunt, and pop. The funny thing is, it all sounds OK to me. Must be from decades of watching TV.
:-)
In November of 2010, Kelli Giddish was on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (promoting her TV series “Chase”) and was talking about celebrating Thanksgiving with her family in Georgia. She said her grandma always makes 2 kinds of dressing, creamy and crunchy. I knew what she meant, but poor Jimmy was so confused, and it got worse as she continued her story. Finally, someone yelled out “stuffing”.
When I was a kid, we called it dressing. These days, I hear both, dressing and stuffing.
Auntie pronounced auntie or auntie pronounced antie?
Auntie pronounced as auntie.
