Say if you are starting to drive from Boston or New York and want to go to Florida. After you pass the Washington DC Area in Virginia you will notice the change in voice in some people when they talk (More Southern). Also more Billboards are on the road on 95 after you pass the DC area.
There's a lot of billboards in Maryland too. I think the biggest change is the names of the restaurants. You start getting good stuff like Waffle House and Bojangles once you hit Maryland, and Sonic once you hit North Carolina.
I don't know why...maybe New Jersey is too built up to have billboards though the Atlantic City Expressway has a lot.
To be honest, we avoid I-95 when we can. When we go back to upstate NY, we take the long way and get on I-77 in Charlotte and follow I-79 through WV and PA. (Well, one of our daughters lives in Morgantown, WV too so that's one reason.) It's alot more laid back and scenic.
One thing I can say about I-95 that is consistent all the way: the horrible drivers. It's a busy and crazy highway.
I've done this trip many times, the last time being January. I noticed they removed a lot of the billboards advertising SOTB. I'm not sure why. There are still a good amount of them left though.
