Seattle has always considered Alaska its own territory, despite even the closest tail being 700 miles away. Actually that's a remnant of the Klondike gold rush (the real money was provisions, based here) and has been less and less true by the decade.

Portland (the big one) has always had its Washington (the big one) neighbor in Vancouver (the little one). Since Washington's growth management allows counties more leeway than Oregon's growth management, and Clark County (home of Vancouver) is relatively lax, much of the metro's suburban sprawl has happened there, though it's often densish sprawl and Vancouver has a real center.

Never knew that. Imagine few others did as well. Good one!!

(so, when folks on the north side of the Detroit River say they are going to "Chinatown", is it understand it is in Winsor?

Well, I guess there is no question on the north side of the Detroit River that when says "Greektown"they're talking the heart of the Motor City.

In late September 1992 I was in Memphis and went to a big fair. Is this the one that moved to Mississippi?

Chicago has its gun shops in Northwest Indiana. This is partly due to the lax firearm laws in Indiana. It's much easier for gangbangers and their straw buyers to cross the border, in order to evade the stricter laws in Illinois, and especially those in Chicago, which outlaws gun shops.
