But my comment was on Houston like Florida.... for more tropical Texas its further west like Corpus Christi ..... I just never likened Houston to Florida to weather or look or attributes. But still definately a warmer climate then most of the US. It still gets a brown winter..... and just added my 2-cents. Florida gets its own class in distinction .... IMHO. As Texans like for their state too.

I've heard coastal Texas called the poor-mans Florida .....

Look at the averages and you'll find Houston's weather very similar to Northern Florida or the Panhandle.

Yes, Galveston's beaches might not be great but South Padre Island is!

I said this earlier in the thread, these cities are the best America has to offer, not the most representative.

You need cities like Orlando, Dallas, Kansas City, Oklahoma City etc. in order to make an accurate list. Most of America is largely the same outside of a handful of US cities.

NY and LA are a given just because they are uniquely America and are a melting pot for everything American and beyond.

DC is the capital but I do not think it represents America beyond being the government center.

And this has nothing to do with a dislike for any city, but more my take on the actual question of the thread.

Most Representative of America

NYC
LA
Oklahoma City or similar
Milwaukee
Orlando/Tampa/Jacksonville (a classic sunbelt city)

The Best America Has to Offer

NYC
LA
Chicago
Miami
DC/Bos/PHL/San Fran

If one assumes that the visitor has LA, Seattle, or San Francisco as point of entry, Bakersfield might give a decent alternative view of the West Coast.

Well, San Bernardino/Riverside are very similar to Bakersfield.

Substitute Boise, Salt Lake City or Denver for Boston.

That's fair, I was thinking of putting Denver but I ultimately chose Boston because of its historic charm.

I understand that, and that's why I said 10 cities would be easier. I do think the Mountain West needs to be seen. Then on the second trip, Boston.
