I'll give two different answers here, one for what "good cities" in the U.S. are like, and one for the U.S. more generally.

First list:
New York
Atlanta
Chicago
Los Angeles or Seattle (can make a good case for either)
Houston

Second list:
Chicago
Philadelphia
New Orleans
Los Angeles
Denver or Minneapolis (can make a good case for either)

It should be Denver because it's in the Mountain West. You already have a midwestern city in Chicago.
