Really? I must have missed something when I traveled there a few times for work. Or do I sense some sarcasm? lol

And OP, if you get a place in two different cities, you could hire a management company to rent them out on VRBO or similar for the months you're away.

Circling back after rereading both of our threads, I'm really sold on the Brickell area of Miami right now. I had compared it to Houston simply because I could buy a great house, but seeing the inevitable real estate pullback coming I'd rather wait out making a purchase and essentially 'live on vacation' in Miami. Have you came to any conclusions or narrowed down your options yet?

Anywhere not named San Fran/San Jose/Manhattan/Brooklyn. $140k for a single person should make most other places within reach.

Chicago, to me, offers the most. If you want to live below your means, you can find a nice studio in Lakeviww for $1300 p/month. If you want to live like a big cat, there are plenty of River Notth studios/1BR going for $2400 p/month. The beauty of Chicago is that is has that mix without sacrificing safety and fun in the north and near west neighborhoods.

Respectfully disagree. That salary, single and young, he can make any city work I think.

Make it work? Probabaly so.

Iím talking live on your own, in a nice, safe, young neighborhood downtown. Thatíd be tough in a select few markets, most notably SF/San Jose/ Manhattan. Other than that, there should be no issue.

E.g with Cali income tax, monthly pay (net) would be $7k pending additional 401k contributions. Standard 1BR studio in SF is probabaly $3200-$3500. For me, spending almost 50% of my monthly doesnít work with additional debt, bills, food, transportation.

Like many people on C-D, I was in a similar predicament making similar money at a similar age. At 24, I was probabaly spending $200 a weekend on booze/food alone. Just my opinion on the matter.

I think NYC is a slam dunk for you. 140K for a single person should allow you to live comfortably anywhere outside of Manhattan. Chicago and LA are great cities, but they're not on the same level as NYC in terms of most the aspects you mention.

Someone mentioned earlier that the US tends to be more work and family focused than other countries like Spain or Thailand where socializing and partying are a bigger deal. I generally agree with that, but NYC is the clear exception. Not that work and family aren't a big deal there, but the breadth and depth of the social and party scene in NYC is among the best in the world and heads and shoulders above any other North American city, in my experience. Places like Miami and Vegas are far more one-dimensional.

Why do I feel as though this thread is just one big humble brag for the OP?
