Never heard of NC being mid atlantic until reading these forums. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but NC doesn't feel that much different than SC in culture to me. Both being quite southern. Virginia has always been across of southern and mid atlantic cultures in my mind.

Me either. NC doesn't feel any different than GA to me, and I've been to both states a million times.

The relatively few outlier counties in Virginia, which are mostly located in peripheral areas of the state, reported "Methodist" as the group with the largest number of adherents, consistent with the rest of the Mid-Atlantic (i.e., DE, MD, NJ, NY and PA).

In my opinion, this statistic is a strong indicator that present-day Virginia is still more closely aligned with the South as opposed to the Mid-Atlantic, despite the popular perception that Virginia is now a Mid-Atlantic state.
I don't think that religious affiliation is that big in the grand scheme of things. I mean I feel that MD is quintessentially Mid-Atlantic whereas VA is just Mid-Atlantic overall but has other cultures that are represented.

What are you talking about? I'm not a Southerner nor making a comment about an area being Southern...

If you're from below the Mason Dixon line, you're a southerner. Any major city south of Baltimore is a southern city.

NC, SC and GA. Totally southern. I’ll be willing to give you that the Blue Ridge mountains and northern NC, could be lumped with VA, which is more skewed towards the DC ethos.

It doesn't matter what you call yourself. You're a southerner.

Plus, how do you know what other people if you aren't there around everybody all the time??

I grew up in SC, lived in GA, and been in NC almost a decade. There is no major difference in culture. I’ve never in my life heard anyone outside of this message board say NC is midatlantic.
