I will give an example of what I mean. Southern Orange County in California consists of several different cities which all statistically are very safe places with little crime. There may be another city out there that’s safer than any in the region, but are there other LARGE land masses of connected cities which can compete in terms of statistics on safety?
Crime statistics are virtually worthless when determining overall safety. A "high crime" area (divided by postal zip code) can be saddled with one problem subsection of one square mile out of it's 20 to 30 square mile landmass that accounts for 3/4 of the crime stats, rendering the entire area supposedly "unsafe".
The "East Valley" region of Phoenix. The East Valley generally refers to the suburbs on the eastern side of Phoenix (Chandler, Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Tempe). With some minor exceptions, the entire area is safe. These cities are home to 1.2-1.4 million people total over a contiguous area.
My first thought was South OC and now I see that's the premise of this thread. I'd also add the inland cities of Ventura County--Simi Valley, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills.
