In 45 out of 51 US metros Black-White segregation decreased over the time period. Some huge like Detroit winch had a 12 point drop over the Time period. The most segregated cities are still up north, but they are making gains at this rate the country will be very very different, and much more intergrated in the coming years.
In 2000 79% of whites lived in white areas, now just 71% do, at this rate I could see around 50% in 2050. While 52% of Blacks lived in Black area's in 2000 now just 45% do at this rate I could see around 30% in 2050. Now we know majority of Blacks don't actually live in Black neighborhoods anymore.
Las Vegas is the most integrated metro followed by Raleigh, Riverside, Austin, Orlando, and Tucson. This is for black and white intergration only.
Sadly LA is the only none northern city to make the most segregated list, still made gains though. Detroit used to be the most segregated city, but as most of us know it's sister city Milwaukee stole that spot the city still managed to grow more intergrated.
Tucson, Phoenix and Raleigh actually segregated more, but these were still some of the least segregated cities in the US.
I’m also curious, in terms of L.A. and some of these other more segregated areas, as to how many of the black neighborhoods have a middle class concentration in comparison to the more integrated areas? I ask because that sometimes the case in the more segregated areas.

Historically LA was the most segregated city outside the Jim Crow south, at least in terms of black-white segregation. "Separate, but equal" was a big thing in Southland school districts.
We need to counter de facto segregation, but softer methods are necessary. Something like desegregation busing was too coercive and backfired tremendously. Coercive methods will only perpetuate de facto segregation.

Is this the result of gentrification? It seems that the real canary in the coal mine is the level of segregation in schools. I am still finding that in areas of suburban Detroit, where blacks have recently moved to, like East Pointe, Harper Woods and other.....that the white population of the schools is seeing a mass exodus.
Also saw a huge rise in the Hispanic population in the last 20 years. Hispanics have been the dominant minority since 1990 but it wasn't till recently that people started seeing Hispanic as American (even though Mexican illegal immigration has been a hot topic in the last decade). Mexicans and Puetro Ricans have lived on the Mainland US long enough to be integrated into mainstream American culture.
The data in the link looks suspect. Regardless, segregation and racism have risen nationwide since 9/11, and especially Nov. 2016. Just take a look around.
You can believe some report that nameless faceless people put together, and pat yourself on the back. But realistically, we've become much more divided and segregated - where it counts - in this century. It's not a good and healthy trend. The walls are becoming obvious; and look at the biggest one intended. Hate and division are on the rise. The melting pot is heating up, with the goal of devaluing and disenfranchising those not in power and/or having ties with those in power. Wake up and take off those rosy glasses.
