I heard Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan have the highest French population out of any Midwestern states. I want to know what part of those states have the highest French population by percentage?
Interesting fron that map it looks like Eastern Missouri around Cape Girardeau (which sounds like a French name) has a high French %. St Louis could be in that speck of red too.

That area is actually north of Cape Girardeau centered around another French named town, Ste. Genevieve. Oldest town west of the Mississippi I believe.
There are still plenty of french people around the lead belt in SE Missouri. Not sure if the creole french dialect still survives there or not. It did in the 80s.
You can see that the extreme southeastern county in Michigan, Monroe County, is bright red. Monroe County has a population that is heavily descended from the French/French-Canadian. The city of Monroe was originally settled by French-Canadians and called Frenchtown, and the main river running through Monroe County, the River Raisin, was originally named "La Riviere aux Raisins" because of all of the wild grapes found growing along its banks by the French settlers in the region.
Many descendents of the original settlers with surnames like Cousineau, Nadeau, Navaeux, Lafountain, Poupard, and Navarre, remain in the area.
