I'm not into warm weather year round but would have to go with the tropical California option here. I despise Mediterranean climates and like humidity/precipitation year round.
For me, Mediterranean climate is one of the most desirable, rare, and sought after climates where California losing I would be a deal breaker. Miami with a mountain backdrop would be one awesome sight. Florida with mountains is my dream fantasy merge of California and Florida.
The Med climate is "rare" only because it is so specifically defined to begin with. Lots of places exhibit the pattern, they're just not included due to rainfall cutoffs.
I visited Jamaica last year after being away for two decades. I had forgotten how mountainous it was. No I don't like mountains anymore, I like Miami just the way it is, noo mountains for me

Florida with mountains. Florida has an ungodly amount of sprawl and the mountains would force cities to be more comdensed.
