Maryland Blue Crab over Dungeness.

I'd give this a 3 way tie: East, West and Gulf Coast.

Since I am allergic to shellfish, that narrows the field considerably and definitely tilts things. But I love fresh wild salmon, particularly the chinook (king) and coho (silver). Most people here tend to order by salmon type and run, not just "salmon."

We also get a lot of fresh fish flown in from Hawaii plus the seasonal local tuna and halibut runs (halibut cheeks make a decent substitute for scallops, in case, like me, you can't eat scallops).

Yeah, there isn't a clear winner in this.

But the Great Lakes is getting no love. Not that it would compete overall, but walleye and yellow perch can hold their own with any fish. Even the sheepshead, which 99 percent of people throw back, is delicious as long you put it directly on ice, know how to clean it and eat it fresh.

Granted, they aren't exclusive to the Great Lakes but are native, at least in Lake Erie, and you don't have to be an expert to catch them.

You’re joking about this, right? I’ve had plenty of both (I’ve got family in DC and have visited there a lot) and Dungeness is far superior.

Also, if the West Coast gets Alaska, it also gets King and Snow crab, which are amazing as well.

Sorry, but crab on the East Coast is a sad state of affairs. Same with the farmed Atlantic salmon that pales in comparison the what is available on the West Coast.

Are we talking about restaurants? Because the products are sold all over the world and a basically not exclusive to a coast of the USA.

If I had to pick which coasts has better seafood restaurants, I say the east coast. It has more variety. Each northeast city/region has its own styles and specialties. The southern coast from Virginia to north Florida has its own style. South Florida has its own style.

I did a taste test one time of oysters from west coast, east coast, etc. The colder water makes the better tasting oysters, in my opinion.

I do admit that I loved Maine lobster when I was there, though.

If the West Coast gets Alaska and Hawaii, than The East Coast gets the Gulf Coast.

I don’t even like Seafood.
