The only thing NYC and Chicago have in common is that they are the biggest cities and has the most amenities in their respective regions. That's it!!

It's Midwest, all the way. It's urban but with some elbow room, and I love it!

Chicago seems more like an East Coast city for several reasons. One, a commuter rail system that allows workers and visitors from over 50 miles away to easily get to the center city. Second, Lake Michigan, which makes development directly to the east impossible. Also its industries long ago moved from manufacturing to professional (more East Coast) business. Indianapolis, Kansas City and Columbus don't come close on these counts.

Chicago is more East Coast than West Coast ( and closer as well), but it's still predominately Midwestern...the Colossus of the Midway..

Definitely not east coast. Chicago's architecture is more modern than the one of older east coast cities like Philly or NY.

Chicago is 1/4 east coast and the rest is mid west (great lakes mid west that is). The only areas that you would get some sort of east coast feel are the areas by the lake, other than that .no.

But isn't that because a lot of it burned down? Chicago isn't that much younger than East Coast cities.

Chicago is about as Midwestern as Miami is southern.
