Hello! One of my criteria in a city is its streets and highways being well lit at night for driving. How is your city after dark? Thanks!

Most big cities with higher crime rates have well lit streets/highways. Any other criteria?

Chicago is the most well lit city I’ve seen in the US, especially the freeways.

The need/desire for strong lighting seems to match the level of crime. The more crime, the more lighting.

Well lit streets mean that the city is a lousy place for looking at the stars at night. When I was living in Tucson, I could go for a walk and there were almost no streetlights along most of the side streets in my neighborhood. On a night with a full moon, it was great, you could see the moon shadows that were cast by tall saguaro cactus. No, I did not worry about getting mugged, there were plenty of other people out walking in the evening and enjoying the natural darkness.

If I drive a car at night, the headlights light up the street just fine, don't need to waste electricity for streetlights.

Agree. I use to live in Chgo. I also lived in Vegas, which is even brighter! I am now in Sacramento and it is pitch black when the sun goes down.

more criteria, yes: warm weather, no snow, cultured, artsy, lively and social, liberal or balanced.

wishes: walkable with beaches near by.

I'd go with St Petersburg FL, downtown specifically where there are a number of condos/rentals.
