Omaha is across the river from Iowa
Philadelphia is on the Delaware River.

"Delaware Water Gap" is different. It's a scenic mountain spot about 100 miles to the north.

Portland, OR is on the Columbia river across from Washington. Our tourguide told us it's illegal for Washington residents to buy large items like appliances in Oregon to avoid sales tax, and bring them home.

Kind of the same situation with northern people illegally bringing more than a token amount of untaxed (or low-taxed) cigarettes from VA and NC.

You're right. Google Maps emphasise Starbucks, not geography.

a little off topic but reminds me of our Alaskan view of the US

1. Alaska
2. Hawaii
3. The lower 48

all the states in the lower 48 have a shared border

Also illegal to buy cigarettes in Virginia and bring them into Maryland to avoid Maryland's ridiculous taxes......

Cimarron County Oklahoma touches Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.

San Juan County Utah touches 14 counties in four states, counting 4-points. San Juan County Washington touches none, it's on islands.

Lyman County South Dakota touches ten counties in the same state, the most I can find.

Several touch only one. Coming quickly to mind are Suffolk NY, Door WI, Keweenau MI, Clallam WA, Northampton VA, San Francisco CA.
