I remember pumping gas in Salem New Hampshire. Some woman with a car full of kids pulls up and asks, "Where are the witches?" Err... That's Salem Massachusetts.

Norman Rockwell did all those Vermont at the holidays illustrations. Later, he moved to the Berkshires and did them from Stockbridge Massachusetts.

Interesting post!!

Halloween:
- Massachusetts (Where I've spent every Halloween, Salem Witch Trials, Sturbridge Village etc)
- New York (Ichabod Crane and Headless Horseman)
- Illinois (Halloween movies)
- Florida (Been to Walt Disney World at Halloween Time)

Christmas:
- Massachusetts (Where I've spent every Christmas)
- New York (Want to see NYC at Christmas time, plus Home Alone 2 movie)
- Illinois (Home Alone movie)
- Florida (Been to Walt Disney World at Christmas Time)

Basically the same 4 states for both of those holidays. Other holidays would garner different answers.

A Christmas Story is a great movie!!! I believe it takes place in Indiana.

Halloween:

California. Grew up there. Awesome weather for costume time!
Many Midwest states. Insert one, almost interchangeable for being ag, with corn mazes, pumpkin picking, all of the other Halloween things.
Bonus mention: Mexico and a lot of Latin America. Really love Day of the Dead.

Xmas:
California. Again, I grew up there. Plus the Sierras are a great traditional setting.
Alaska. The cold and snow.
Colorado: again, Rockies are a great setting
Wherever home is: because the dream is to have a great Christmas no matter where you are.

I don't think of US states when I hear certain holidays mentioned. I might think of my own family's past activities during these holidays, but not certain regions of the country.

This was my first thought as well. I mean, I would have to really "put on my thinking cap" to come up with particular states for particular holidays, especially for Halloween.

Now, my daughter lived in Guam for a few years and she did say that she couldn't get in the Christmas spirit in a tropical environment and I can understand that. And here in Texas I do prefer Christmas weather to be chilly - it's generally chilly and sunny but I really hate those years (thankfully the exception rather than the rule) when it's not even nippy outside. But I definitely don't think of snow or sledding or whatever when I think of Christmas. I think of frosty mornings, evenings by the fire with some egg nog, and kids running outside to play with their Christmas toys in the chilly sunshine - which can be just about anywhere in the US.
