Well Billiam, I'm pretty sure not only Food & Wine and ForbesTraveler would have to disagree with you about the food. Maybe you just haven't found the right food in Houston yet.
I think Atlanta has the best architecture. I think they all have good food but I think Houston edges out Dallas for food.
Off Topic Question: Why don't we have Miami and New Orleans in these Southern city discussions?
I think the "A" beats the other two when it comes to architecture and I eat soul food every once in a while (sometimes it's the Sunday dinner) or when there's a special occasion. I like Southwestern food also.
What is all this "soul food" talk. It is simply "SOUTHERN" food. Just because blacks in the north call it "soul food" doesn't mean that is what it primarily is. It is "Southern Cuisine". White southerners do not call it "soul food", so I don't know why you would.
Hello, I have been to all 3 and I think that Houston was the best. It has world class cuisine and more skyscrapers than the other 2 put together.Houstons galleria area alone is bigger than downtown atlanta and thats not even counting downtown Houston. Yes houston has some unfavorable parts too and Atlanta has it's midtown but for food I choose Houston all the way.
Houston trumps Atlanta and Dallas for both Architecture and Food. The skyscrapers and the eclectic nature of the city make it a great breeding ground for adventourous architecture. It's no Chicago, but it stood out to me.
Houston is more cosmopolitan than Dalls or Atlanta too, and that certainly affects the restaurant scene. I can't think of any other place in the South where Latin American Cuisine, Louisiana Cajun/Creole Cuisine, Texan Cuisine, Southern Cuisine, and Vietnamese Cuisine coincide the way they do in H-Town. I've never ever had a bad meal there when I visit.
Believe it or not, it actually takes effort to find "Great" Southern/Soul Food in Atlanta. There are so many transplants here now, and people here tend to go for 'trendy', so much of the southern flavor is diluted somewhat. I either have to go to the hood or way out to the exurbs to get some good Southern Eatin.
But thanks Houston for bringing "This is It" up here!

My family, relatives, and friends have been calling it soul food ever since I was young, it's hard to switch it up now. If you want to be specific with this Southern cuisine includes Cajun/Creole, Lowcountry, and the Appalachian Moutain, food. I am looking a what Wikipedia has down as soul food and you couldn't pay me to eat some of this stuff (liver, gizzards, hoghead cheese, etc) but I do eat the breads, vegetables, and fried chicken and fish. Wikipedia calls soul food the mother of Southern Cooking, so take it or leave it. I thought about what you said and I think what I sometimes eat would be your traditional Southern Cuisine and not the hardcore soulfood (fatback, pigs feet, etc).

But im a person and i have an opinion that im not going to change just because Forbes likes it. But no, i didn't find much food there, but i just stayed downtown so i wouldn't know exactly. But those were what i brought back from each experience, ive been to all three cities and that is my opinion that can't be suede unless i go back and find more.

Nobody said it was going to judge my friend. Just you need to eat at the right places. I'll even say that Houston doesn't have the greatest downtown.
