What does photo #2 have to do with Oakland? Oakland designer?
Anyway, fabulous photographs!
It was a fashion show put on by local designers in Oakland.
Sorta off topic,
but Oakland, on top of historically having thousands of wealthy professionals in the hills, has lately really become a mecca for edgier hipsters-interesting to see them change the landscape of many once depressed areas. Crime persists of course, but Oakland is not what most people think.
The book is about the global players, my friend. The point is ...American scholars do not put SF in the front ranks of the American cities like NY, Chi, & LA

Yes, Oakland, the whole city is just a pool of crime and poverty.
Yes, b/c I said every square inch of Oakland was ghetto didn't I? You think b/c you show some nice pictures of Oakland that somehow takes away from the fact that it, along with Richmond, are in the TOP 10 MOST DANGEROUS Cities in America?

Yet idiots out there felt the need to vote for him a second time? What the hell were you people thinking?
Once again, The Bay Area wasn't the only place where people voted against Bush? MY PEOPLE?!?! What the hell makes you think I voted for that guy? Your ridiculous, you act like the Bay Area is the only place that was against Bush, give me a break!
And MANY other surveys, reports,ect... rank other US metro areas much higher than the Bay Area. That's why polls and surveys are somewhat BS, you can find one to support any position you want to for the most part.

I'm just curious, were you born and raised in the Bay Area and are from there?
Oakland..along with Richmond, are in the TOP 10 MOST DANGEROUS Cities in America?
Everyone knows that. But most are not aware that Oakland is not defined by crime-there is much more. And you cannot dispute that no matter how much you want to.
Otherwise, such pictures would not exist.

Sorry to say this, but its always easier to own and maintain a Honda than it is to own and operate a Ferrari.
My ranking is purely a look at quality of life in world cities, yours looks at the feasibility of the average family living there. If you want an average place to live in, go right ahead.
I dont.

By now, I would of thought that it was painfully clear to you that this sort of arrogance could only be born and raised within commuting distance of the Transamerica Pyramid.

okay, not sure why you are telling me this. Growing up near Oakland i know what the city is like and where the nice parts are, as do you judging by your screen name.

My point was that the Bay Area does not rank as the best to live in many surveys, reports, ect.... Despite SF always claiming to be so socially progressive and "ahead of the curve" they fall behind many other large cities in certain quality of life rankings. Despite all the high taxes, social programs, activism, ect.... the Bay Area is not much better off overall than many other parts of this country. You still got crime, poverty, traffic, pollution, ect...to deal with like everyone else.

Generally I find many transplants to exhibit these qualities while natives tend to be more down to earth which is why I was asking. So you are from here originally?

Its just my nature to argue over silly things. Not really serious about it though.
Yes, born and raised here.
I do find it interesting how transplants claim the Bay Area so hardcore after living here for a short while. Like growing up, I knew people who didnt even speak English yet but were so down for The Bay. LOL

Good point! Many of the "rude, obnoxious" New Yorkers people complain about aren't actually natives of the place. Same deal with Miami.
