What US cities' substantiality are most dependent on tourism?
I guess I'm asking..."What cities' are viewed as more play than work"?
I know what I think, but let's find out what you think.

I would have to say cities like:
-Las Vegas (Everytime you mention that you're going there, people will always think that you're going gambling and watch shows and stuff)
-Orlando (Amusement parks, disney world, universal studios)
-Honolulu (Beaches, aloha, surfing)

San Francisco - after the 1906 quake tourism was built into the biggest industry here (I beileve).

Las Vegas and Orlando pretty much wouldn't exist if it wasn't for tourism. It's the tourist attractions that made those cities.
San Diego is also very dependent on tourism, but has diversified its economy more.
I didn't vote for SF b/c while the city itself is pretty dependent on tourism, the region has a very diversified and large economy.
Also two cities that you didn't mention that are also very dependent on tourism are NEW ORLEANS and HONOLULU.

I just put the largest cities by metro but New Orleans and Honolulu are definite no-brainers.

Sure Los angeles and San Francisco get lots of revenue from tourism, but they do have a lot of other industries and sectors that generate large revenue to the cities. I think this thread is about cities that would just shut down and dead if you took tourism out. I don't think LA and SF qualify for that IMO
