My fav state plate, the old Michigan ones with the Mackinac Bridge; I also like the Kentucky plate.
I like the current Missouri one, too. I guess I've just gotten used to it.

But I think I like the new one more.

Mississippi's lighthouse plates are cute.

I also really like Wyoming's.

AND - the new New Mexico one is great. http://www.aaroads.com/license_plate.../nm-dhg089.jpg

I love it.

The cowboy is only one aspect of the license plate, anyways. I almost forgot that there was a cowboy on there. Plus, I love the fact that it at the very least says something about the stereotype and the truths of the state....the cowboy, oil, the starry open night, the rocket, the hills.

My favorite are the Columbine Colorado plates (the funds from the plates go to scholarships for the kids at Columbine High School):

and Hawaii (GO BOWS!)- classic, and uncluttered

I dislike the US Virgin Islands (there is something just not professional about these- PLUS it points out that the Virgin Islands are "owned" by the US)

and illinois...c'mon! You have some beautiful scenery in your state AND chicago...and this is the best you can come up with?

Faves are
Illinois
Indiana (Navy blue with white lettering, and "God Bless America" in bottom left corner. Just real simple and clean)

Alaska (the old school yellow plates with blue letter. They're just cool.)

I happen to love our plates. Having the skyline of Chicago on the plate would offend the southern Illinoisans, and Id imagine it would be too hard to put an image of our scenic places on the plate (ie Shawnee National Forest, Starved Rock, Matthiessen, Buffalo Rock, Garden of the Gods, etc). I love the colors of the plate, and the fact that it pays homage to one of the greatest presidents in our nation's history, who called IL home and is buried here. I also absolutely love the font the state chose to write Illinois in. I think its the perfect touch, as the word Illinois is beautiful and it deserves a beautiful font.

Ok, I concede that Illinois is a beautiful word- and much of the state is beautiful...I just think it's interesting that for a state so beautiful in all parts (esp southern- i finally got to see it this year) that they instead only put Lincoln on there. Yes he was one of the greatest presidents. Interesting to hear your viewpoint, Steve-o

Thanks! Yes, parts of the state are gorgeous, but most of it is flat, no thanks to glaciers. But hey, we have incredible soil, does that count for something? Of course it does, Im just joking of course. NW IL and southern IL are gorgeous, as are the roads along the Mississippi and parts of central IL.

Oooh, I forgot to list my faves:

1. New Mexico Zia plate. The plate shown on the link is the old plate, the new plate has the retarded hot air balloon on it. Yuck.

2. Colorado. Love the evergreen color and mountains.

3. Utah. Love the colors and red rocks shown. Gorgeous!

4. New Hampshire. Just their slogan is cool enough!

I like simple easily distinguishable plates. No "WE LUV R KIDZ!" or "Pet Friendly" BS like we see all too often on some states' vanity plates.

1. Vermont -- classic, simple
2. Delaware (esp their old-school antique car plate....white on black)
3. The old Virginia plates (pre current 400th anniversary issue)
4. New Mexico -- I like the red on yellow
