I am a New Orleans refugee sitting in a shelter in Little Rock AR.

As I sit here in the shelter I have had a chance to hear from many angry New Orleans area residents who are sick and tired of the Mayor, Hurricanes, the bad economy, bad schools and a variety of social problems. Most of the people in the shelter here are African Americans with limited life skills, education or employment experience. Most have not heard of this message board to look up Cities and talk about relocation.

If I were to give them advice, what City would be good for them to move to where they could get a fresh start in life but not have to deal with a huge culture shock? What City is most like New Orleans culturally, but with less problems?

I regret to inform you there is no city in the USA like New Orleans culturally that has less problems. There are maybe a handful of smaller cities where you will run into the same or similar problems, like Charleston, SC; Savannah, GA; and Galveston, TX. Oh, and maybe Baltimore, MD. There are similarities there, too.

Well...Stay in Little Rock, you may feel really at home. We already have a LOT of NOLA folks who came and stayed from Katrina. Sometimes it seems like there are more LSU fans here than Hog fans anymore! Oh and I saw some Saints merch at a Wal-Mart last year too!!

Any more northern large city with an African American population should do.

Unfortunately the people themselves must change first. A different city or geographic place won't change "them"--it might temporarily change their mood and outlook, but they must educate themselves.

To answer the question in the post, I'd say Houston, Shreveport, Jackson, MS, Little Rock, or Memphis would all suffice in terms of culture, geography, and easy accessibility.

Seriously!

I don't see how they're culturally similar, except that each city is known for music, but even the genres of music are different. Hmmm... It may be a good place to get a fresh start in life, as would about a million other places, though. Of course, some people compare Austin to San Francisco, and I will never in a million years understand that either!

Savannah, GA is the only city that vaguely reminds me of New Orleans. I like Savannah a little more personally lol.
