When I lived in Pittsburgh in the 80's, there would often be a bad smell b/c of the steel mills there. Very strong sulfur smell that would burn your throat and nose. Probably wasn't very healthy.

Monroe, LA, too, when I lived there as a kid. The rotten smell coming up from the bayou, especially after it rained. Every once in a while I'll catch a whiff of a similar smell around some boggy place and it always reminds me of living there. Ah, childhood.

Bourbon Street in New Orleans at night. Smells like dead ass.

It gets hosed down real well next morning, though.

I live in Augusta, GA.. and the entire southside of town can smell like rotten eggs on certain days. It can be pretty powerfully nauseating. Sometimes I don't know how ppl can handle it. I wouldn't be able to live on that side of town. It can be pretty nasty.

That is actually Brunswick, GA in that pic and it stinks too... Jesup doesn't as much because the mill (Rayonier) sits on the Altamaha River (Wayne Co / Long Co line) and the winds usually blow the smell north but we do get it on occasion.

There is a paper mill in Charleston SC. and the river mud has a certain smell to it as well.

not a big town but Georgetown SC is horrible, with a paper mill near the downtown district.

LA, when it isn't raining, smells from all the homeless people and dogs peeing everywhere. I would guess Vegas outside of the tourist areas and SF probably have the same problem.
Other cities: East side of Houston near all the chemical plants. Galveston, TX near the sulfur storage area by the Pelican Island Bridge. Cedar Rapids, IA had a strong manure smell (Don't know if farmers outside of town were fertilizing their fields). In the 90's there was a paper mill across the river from Savannah, GA that had a terrible smell when the wind blew from thr north, don't know if it's still there.
