When talking about the "splitting" of IL. It is commonly known that US Hwy 50 (which runs due east of St. Louis to the Indiana line) is usually the dividing line for the Southern IL section known as "Little Egypt." The culture and lifestyle of S. IL is in no way reflective of Chicago and the industrial cities of Northern IL. So I can see why some talk of splitting has and is happening, but I doubt we ever see it in our lifetime. Although this S. IL gal would like to see it..........

I agree with you completly, Western KY is very different then Eastern KY. But I think a split would take place at US 431, Making a place lake Mayfield or Paducah capitol.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but the only difference I notice between east Kentucky and west Kentucky is topography. What do you guys mean when you say it's different?

The main difference in my mind is the demographics, and economic situation of the residents. Obviously West KY has larger cities, Lexington, Louisville etc. and, in most cases a more wealthy population. I do relize the area there along the WV and VA border is unique but most of West KY is more waelthy then East KY. East KY is more rural, small towns etc.

Thanks for clearing that up Jericho, I always though Lexington would be considered eastern KY? Any ways I like the the Carrollton, KY and Madison, IN region. That would never be there own state though. lol

Do we really need another state ?
It would just freak out all the obsessive compulsive friends
of mine who are cool on 50. If we pick one up maybe we could
couple two states into one. Like any state that prefixes its' name with a direction is obviously dealing with separation anxiety and should be reunited.

If you think about it, most states are 'divided' this way...NY, MA, PA, VA, CA, OR, WA, TX, and I could go on and on...

Someone mention the possibility of a State of Jefferson made up of Northern California and Southern Oregon.

I have also heard quite a bit about a proposed State of Lincoln which would be made up of parts of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
