I was just poking fun at NYC and just saying how different peoples views are in that state. A lot of people lump NYC and the rest of the state together and think everyone up theres a liberal democrat when its so far from the truth. No when I visit up there I do not go to NYC or any where close to it. I no I wouldnt like it there and they wouldnt like me there. The thing is people are just as racist up north as they are down here. But I think if people wanna be racist they have the right to be that way as long as they dont act on it.

If I were a sociologist I'd consider writing a book about our human inclination to be 'tribal'. Even though we hail from one great country (the greatest, imho), we have our suspicions about each other. Even in my little corner of Oregon, people from one town have notions about those from other towns. Almost all the 'notions' are unfavorable. Californians are the scum of the earth (we just moved here from SoCal). NY'rs are the devil (I'm a born and bred NY'r). When does it end? Probably never, as we are reverting to our evolutionary natures. Maybe we're closer to the apes than we want to contemplate.

Well in general, Southerners view Northerners as a bit arrogant, pushy, and lacking in social graces.
But I have met many very nice Northerners!
The term "Yankee" probably has a lot to do with that connotation though.
I dont understand it, though. Here in Virginia we are having a lot of people though trying to change things in the name of "progress" without little regard to history.
They probably get freely called "yankees" because most of them moved down here for jobs and such. They just dont understand us, and we dont understand them.

Obviously Orange County is a very wealthy and affluent area. California has several very affluent areas. And the "less fortuante", fine I will use the "appropriate" term, always will **** on the wealthy and well as attractive and successful people. Ask 100 people that say that hate SoCal, Californiaians, ect. if they would trade places from there lesser existance, several would take it!
Same can be said for some that "hate" NY'rs. There are also very affluent individuals there. And the lower class will always hold a grudge to that.

I'm confused by your post...it seems that you're referring to people in the South as lower class and less fortunate? I would hope that's not what you meant, but it reads that way. If you weren't referring to southerners, who were you referring to and what relevence do your statements have?

I doubt you'll find many Southerners who would trade places with a Northerner. Just as a SoCal beach boy wouldn't trade "riding the wave" for "the waves of grain". It's cultural, instinctive, and ingrained (no pun intended).

Southerners are hardly poor, from Texas oil money, to Atlanta communications and high tech, banking in NC.
No, go to Virginia--very wealthy, Mississippi has more millionaire per capita. and I dont need to say Palm Beach.
padge and sprtlover, you are so right on

I dont see why people think the South is so poor either.
It might be a tad poorer than the northeast or the west coast, but compared to some parts of the midwest, its actually quite upscale.
Some areas of the South always had a lot of money- Richmond, Charleston, and Savannah are all very blue blooded Aristocratic Southern cities, with families that rival the so-called old New England Preppies and Manhattan, NY types.
Nashville is the Athens of the South- has lots of music, not just country but rock, pop, Classical and anything in between.
The South has LOTS of culture.
I was up North and I saw some very poor areas Especially upstate New York. I think its called Schoharie county? Its one the poorest counties in the United States. They have people living in chicken coops up there.

Obviously talking about money- parts of California wins that race. And no other states has so many wealthy areas.
Some contendors for each region I think would be:
Buckhead (Atlanta) for the South
SoCal- too many cities to name for the West Coast
Grosse Point, Michigan (Anita Baker, Fords, Pistons players live there) multi million dollar lakefront homes - for the Midwest
Greenwhch, CT (Beautiful area!) & Hamptons- for the Northeast
What cities do think would contend for each region?
