From a college students perspective I would say Santa Barbara. More specifically Isla Vista where UC Santa Barbara is located. You cannot beat the location (literally on a bluff overlooking the ocean), the weather, scenery, and atmosphere. Yes it's dirty, they party hard, etc...but for a college kid it's almost like heaven.

I am glad I chose not to go there though, I was very close to choosing UCSB over UCSD but probably would have gotten to even more trouble at UCSB.

just look at this location:

Agree, a best "college town" list without Chapel Hill is hard to imagine. The whole place screams college experience. Campus is beautiful too.

That is increbile. I can't imagine going to college literally on the beach. Pretty cool.

Default Charlottesville

Ditto Charlottesville...Living in Austin now, I do think that Austin is a great college "city", but nothing beats Charlottesville. Most beautiful campus, most beautiful natural setting, great lively downtown, history, tradition, etc...

I chose Ithaca of the places on the list. Beautiful town on the south end of a finger lake with some of the most beautiful scenery and parks within 5 miles. Cornell and Ithaca college are both located there. It does not get any better than that!

Soooo true, i love Charlottesville, have family there and it is truly beautiful. Make sure you eat at historic Michie tavern when you're in the area! One of the coolest places i have ever gone to eat, a place that people like Thomas Jefferson used to eat long ago.

I voted Boston, but I think it is more of college city, not town...just my opinion. Madison was a second choice of mine. I also liked the town I was born in...which would be Fayetteville, AR.

I just had lunch at the Tavern last month after a tour of Monticello...went with a group of British tourists (taking advantage of the weak $, no doubt)...so much fun!
