State College, PA and Burlington, VT are two of my favorites.

Haven't been to all of them, some that I have been to I don't like. Boulder, CO is wierd without a doubt, but it's "home".

ya Boulder definitely needs to be on this list too, it's probably the first "college town" that would come to my mind.

I agree with the others, Charlottesville VA is hard to beat.

Likewise, Oxford MS is a quintessential college town (a town of 13,000 is home to a university of 12,000 students).

Other cool college towns I've been to and enjoy:

Gainesville FL (it pains me to admit that one)
Logan UT
Boulder CO
Hanover NH
Cookeville TN

I'd suggest putting the choices into two categories. Three of the cities in the poll--Austin, Boston, and Columbus--are too large to be pure college towns. They have many other activities, and will feel like college towns only in the neighborhoods near the colleges. These cities might need a separate category.

I haven't been to a lot of these places, but three others I often hear meantioned as examples of good college towns are Lawrence, KS, Iowa City, and Champaign-Urbana.
