I have a more theoretical question about this. What constitutes visiting a state?

For example, I was on a train that traveled through Rhode Island, but because I didn't get off the train, I don't count that as having visited that state. Ditto, for planes that have landed at airports at which I did not deplane, or car trips where I never got out of the car. What rules are you guys using?

Given those rules I have been to 32 states and DC. The states I haven't visited are ND, SD, NE, KS, MN, IA, WI, MI, IN, OH, RI, NC, AL, FL, AR, LA, AK, and HI, - mostly the Midwest, and about a third of the southern states.

good question

I've changed planes at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport, but don't count Kentucky as a state I've visited

I didn't count Arizona until I went to the Grand Canyon, having my picture taken with my left foot in Arizona, and my right in Nevada at Hoover Dam didn't count

I don't count it unless I've set foot in the state outside the airport, and have spent more than a few minutes over the state line
