It hasn't changed my views, I still love Chicago.

I read the same stupid comments that I've heard in person. It's about the same.

The other day, I asked a San Franciscan where he'd be working in San Jose. "What part of San Jose," I said. He replied, "Part? I didn't know it had parts. I thought it was just a bunch of Olive Gardens." The next day, I looked up Olive Garden locations because I hadn't seen one around here before. There's apparently one here.

Lurking and interacting sporadically on this forum has not changed my opinion of Indianapolis at all. I am used to people coming down here from Chicago and ripping Indy to shreds. I am used to people from Ohio (including my sister) coming to Indianapolis and ripping it to shreds. I am used to hearing people tell me how "small" Indy is and how "suburban" Indy is. I am used to hearing people tell me that I do not know anything about "true big cities." The thing is; I don't care. I love it here. Some arrogant jerk from out of town is not going to change my mind. I love downtown Indianapolis. I love walking around Broad Ripple. I love exploring the "urban" areas that Indy offers such as Holy Cross and Fountain Square; even if they are just urban by Indy standards. I love being able to get from my job on the northeast side to downtown in a half hour. I do not care how special Chicago's northside is, or how much more urban Cincinnati is, or how much bigger St. Louis' metro area is. Those are great places to visit; but not places I have any interest in living. Hearing someone from Chicago (or any other city) preach to me is not going to change MY opinion of MY city!

[/end rant]

I have felt the way I feel about where I live for many years before I happened onto CD, nothing I have read has changed my opinion of where I am, or where I really wanna be. If I cant be there, at least I can talk to the wonderful folks on the Missouri forum.

While it hasn't really affected my opinion about where I live now, city-data (along with some other places) has affected how I view the state where I'm from (Michigan.) There's a lot of bashing and negativity associated with the state, and while I know that unemployment is high there and some of the cities there have problems, it makes me sad to see so many people rip on the state. In a way, it almost makes me feel guilty for leaving (I was bored/grad school,) like I'm one of the criticizers. However, these aren't my feelings at all - I like Michigan, I'd like to see it do well, and someday I'd hopefully like to move back there.

Generally speaking, if it isn't in North Carolina or Tennessee east of Nashville, it gets ripped apart on here.

Better. I realize now that many people from regions other than the Northeast dislike Kansas City.

Worse. I never realized until I started posting here just how many people dislike Scranton. Maybe they're all just jealous because they don't have "The Office?"

People on this forum tend to be NYC/Chicago/San Francisco elitists. Not everybody can live in one of these world cities.
