Waco High in Waco use to be really bad. For a school of only about 2000 kids, they had over 200 fights/attacks in a year. They had to bring in the swat team once because of a big riot went down and had the teachers lock themselves in their rooms. Drugs and gangs was also another big issue at the school with students selling drugs on campus, and gang fights. It has gotten much better now.

Even the very good high schools? What about the high schools in the nicer neighborhoods too?

At this point, I think drugs are in almost every high school in the country. Even the rich suburbs can have plenty of drugs.

The thing with NYC high schools is that kids can apply to whatever ones they want. You hardly see kids going to their local high schools in NYC, even if a kid lives in the Upper East Side. That local high school will attract kids from all over, including kids in gangs, drug sellers, etc.

Well you expect that in NYC, but were talking about a town with roughly a 120k population.

Even worse than that, look at this: Article | Cleveland Worst in U.S. in High School Graduation

Thats an old article, but it shows in 1998 Cleveland schools had a graduation rate of 28%. With only 23% of whites graduating, that was by far the lowest out of all the cities. It also had the lowest graduation rates of blacks and latinos. Thats pretty bad. In recent years, the graduation rate is up to around 40% though, which is still horrible. Detroit is not much better.

Columbus was bad at one time, but has seen dramatic improvements in graduation rate.

Yeah, I know what you are saying about drugs. My school was like that, but more into alcohol.
